New Vauxhall Mokka Electric Long Range goes 40 miles further for £1,000 more

The upgraded Mokka gets a range of 253 miles and is available in three trim levels

The Vauxhall Mokka Electric Long Range has arrived with new tech originally from the Jeep Avenger which brings, as its name suggests, a longer electric range, plus only a £1,000 premium over the ‘regular’ plug-in Mokka.

Unequivocally the main highlight of the Mokka Electric Long Range is its 54kWh (51kWh usable) battery pack which boosts range by 43 miles over the standard car to a WLTP combined maximum of 253 miles – just three miles short of the much more expensive Honda e:Ny1.

Also found in the smaller Vauxhall Corsa Electric and larger Vauxhall Astra Electric, this larger battery pack is paired with a more powerful 154bhp electric motor. Despite this version having roughly 20bhp more than the regular Mokka Electric, Vauxhall is yet to say whether there will be any tangible performance benefits. In fact, rivals such as the facelifted Peugeot E-2008, which shares its parts with the Vauxhall, is actually slightly slower than the outgoing model.

The Vauxhall Mokka Electric Long Range is on sale now, with prices starting from £37,610 on the road – exactly £1,000 more than the regular, 209-mile Mokka Electric, which will continue to be sold alongside its longer-legged sibling.

Both are being offered in three variants: Design, GS and Ultimate – the latter costing as much as £42,295 when equipped with the Long Range powertrain. Standard equipment is strong, though, with LED headlights, dual seven-inch screens with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity and a variety of driver aids including rear parking sensors and a reversing camera.

Upgrading to GS nets you sporty gloss-black exterior detailing, a larger 10-inch touchscreen and a 12-inch instrument cluster, dual-zone climate control, heated seats and a heated steering wheel. Finally, the Ultimate which ups the ante with IntelliLux Matrix LED headlights, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and massaging seats trimmed in Alcantara.
