New Jeep Wagoneer S touted as an electric SUV that can overcome mountains and sports cars alike

The all-new electric Jeep 4x4 will get around 600bhp and a terrain management system for enhanced off-roading ability

After a rather embarrassing leak on social media, the Jeep Wagoneer S has now been officially unveiled as the brand’s first four-wheel drive electric SUV.

Positioned above the front-wheel drive Jeep Avenger in the line-up, the Wagoneer S is pitched as a capable luxury SUV to rival the BMW iX, Audi Q8 e-tron and Mercedes EQE. It sits on parent brand Stellantis’ all-new STLA Large electric-car platform which allows for battery sizes of up to 100kWh and potentially an electric range of up to 400 miles.

That is, of course, if you don’t make full use of the power that’ll be on offer; Jeep says the Wagoneer S will output 592bhp and will dispatch 0-62mph in ‘around 3.5 seconds’. This puts it on par with the likes of the Tesla Model Y and BMW iX M60 in terms of straightline performance.

It’s not all about scorching sports cars at the traffic lights, though, as Jeep says the Wagoneer will also come equipped with a ‘Selec-Terrain’ toggle switch on the centre console. This enables the driver to choose from one of five drive modes: Auto, Eco, Sport, Sand and Snow – the last two should make the Wagoneer S one of the most capable electric off-roaders, rivalling the Subaru Solterra and upcoming Range Rover Electric.

Before now, we’ve only been given glimpses of what the electric Jeep Wagoneer will look like. However, as you can see from the latest official images, the new car will get a front LED light bar that integrates itself into Jeep’s iconic slatted grille, as well as a brawny upright silhouette. Perhaps most unusual is the huge spoiler at the top of the bootlid which is visually similar to the one fitted to the Nissan Ariya Nismo.

On the inside, the Jeep Wagoneer S gets a very similar dashboard to the petrol-powered Jeep Wagoneer that’s only on sale in the U.S. The Wagoneer is yet another competitor in the current in-car screen arms race, with a total of four displays for the front row: one for the dials, one for the sat-nav and media, one for the climate controls and one for the front passenger.

Furthermore, Jeep has also said the cabin will be wrapped in ‘mindful materials’, meaning we could see some ethically-sourced and/or recycled fabrics used throughout the car. Less mindful, perhaps, is the 19-speaker McIntosh sound system which we’re sure has the capacity to wake your entire neighbourhood from a meditative state .

The Jeep Wagoneer S will first go on sale in the US in 2025, coming to other ‘key markets’ – including Europe – thereafter. It’s yet to be confirmed as to whether it’ll come to the UK, but if it does, you can expect a starting price of over £70,000.
