Skoda electric cars: first look at follow-ups to Enyaq iV SUV

Czech brand’s next three electric cars will be smaller than the Enyaq iV; entry-level EV will share platform with Cupra and Volkswagen models

Skoda EV teaser

Skoda has released the first teaser image of its new entry-level electric car that’ll arrive in 2025. It’s one of two zero-emissions models the Czech brand has previewed, both likely to use its ‘modern solid’ design language.

The sketch Skoda released of the car’s side profile doesn’t reveal a lot about the forthcoming EV, but we do know this particular model is a sister car to the Volkswagen ID.1 supermini and ID.2 crossover, as well as Cupra’s own entry-level EV. That means it’ll be fairly compact, potentially serving as a zero-emissions alternative to the Skoda Fabia hatchback.

All small electric models from Skoda, Cupra and Volkswagen will use a shortened version of the VW Group’s MEB platform and will be built in Spain. We believe prices for Skoda’s entry-level EV will be similar to its VW sister car, which is projected start from €20,000 to €25,000 (£17,000 to £21,400).

However, a larger electric crossover SUV, previewed back in March 2022, will arrive first. Again, the blurred image above doesn’t reveal a whole lot about the new car, but the front end does appear to feature a blanked-off grille like most modern electric cars. The rest of the squared-off design is reminiscent of the Hyundai Ioniq 5.

We also know that earlier in 2022, Skoda filed a trademark for the name ‘Elroq’, which alluded to a small electric SUV similar in size to the brand’s combustion-engined Karoq. Judging by the scale and styling cues of the car in the teaser image here, this concept may give rise to that particular family EV.

However, the only detail Skoda CEO Thomas Schaefer has revealed to date is that the brand’s next three fully electric models will be smaller than the Enyaq iV and Enyaq Coupe iV SUVs. Speaking at the unveiling of the latter back in February, Schaefer said: “The Enyaq iV family is only the start of our e-mobility campaign. We already have three more electric vehicles on the way that’ll be introduced in the coming years.”

As mentioned, Skoda has already filed a trademark for the name ‘Elroq’, while the remaining two model names are expected to begin with an ‘E’, following Skoda’s naming convention for its zero-emissions models. All three of Skoda’s upcoming EVs are likely to be based on a version of the VW Group’s MEB platform, which underpins the Enyaq iV, Cupra Born, as well as the Volkswagen ID.3 hatchback and ID.4 SUV.
