New Fiat E-Scudo electric van: prices, specs and details

The Fiat Scudo name has been revived for a new medium-size van, available with fully electric power just like its Citroen, Peugeot, Toyota and Vauxhall cousins

Fiat e-Scudo

The Fiat Scudo name has been revived for a new medium-sized van, available to order from December 2021 and priced from £35,720 before VAT in fully electric 'E-Scudo' form. If it looks familiar, that's because it's a near-identical sister model to the Citroen e-Dispatch, Peugeot e-Expert, Toyota Proace Electric and Vauxhall Vivaro-e – joint winners of DrivingElectric's 2022 Best Medium Electric Van award.

As it shares drivetrain technology with those models, the E-Scudo gets a 134bhp electric motor and a choice of 50 or 75kWh batteries, for driving ranges of 143 and 205 miles respectively, along with 100kW rapid-charging capability for swift battery top-ups on the go.

Two main versions of the E-Scudo are being offered at launch: the short-wheelbase 50kWh battery model comes in the Tecnico trim and has an on-the-road-price of £35,720 before VAT, while the long-wheelbase 75kWh battery model comes in Business specification and is priced at £43,050 on the road, excluding VAT.

Load capacity doesn't differ between the electric and diesel-engined variants of the Scudo, topping out at 6.1 cubic metres of cargo volume, a one-tonne payload and one-tonne towing capacity for the long-wheelbase version. The short-wheelbase model offers a 5.3-cubic-metre cargo volume, meanwhile.

Safety systems are a key focus for the new Scudo; it comes with automatic road-sign recognition, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning and blind-spot alerts as standard, along with front collision warning and a 180-degree rear parking camera. There's also a head-up display so the driver can keep their eyes on the road.

Fiat will eventually offer panel-van, crew-van and platform-cab variations of the new E-Scudo, which is being built at the same French factory that produced the previous Scudo between 1996 and 2012. A passenger version seating up to nine, called the E-Ulysse, will also be available.
