Audi A7 hybrid reliability & safety rating

The A7 TFSI e has a strong safety rating, but Audi’s customer-satisfaction scores are disappointing for what’s perceived as a premium brand

All Audi A7s have to be capable of a wide variety of motoring tasks – they may serve as a London to Leeds mile-muncher in the week and then take the kids to all kinds of activities at the weekend. With this in mind, a five-star safety rating may be viewed as a necessity if an A7 is to compete with rivals. Fortunately, Euro NCAP awarded the Audi its maximum mark when the car was evaluated in 2018.

Audi A7 hybrid reliability & problems

Audi’s latest A7 has yet to appear in the annual Driver Power car ownership survey, but as a manufacturer, Audi finished 23rd out of 30 brands ranked in the most recent edition. While such a result is undeniably disappointing for a premium brand, especially compared to Porsche (first) and Jaguar (seventh), Audi also ranked lower than German rivals Mercedes (13th) and BMW (21st). For reference, the highest-placed Audi was the Q3 SUV (available in plug-in hybrid form) which ranked 22nd out of the 75 cars that were rated.

Safety

To delve a deeper into the A7’s safety rating, it scored highest for adult occupant protection with a rating of 93%. After which it was child occupant protection at 85%, then vulnerable road users at 81% and finally safety assist at 76%.

Despite safety assist being the poorest scored area, entry-level A7 TFSI e Sport models come with a good roster of safety equipment as standard. This includes lane-departure warning, a collision-avoidance system (which Audi calls ‘Pre-Sense Front’), a rear-view camera and automatic lights and wipers.
