Cupra Formentor e-Hybrid range, MPG, CO2 & charging

As with all plug-ins, the Formentor’s figures depend on how often you charge it, but CO2 emissions are low

Plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) are ideal for those with short commutes or those looking to cut down on monthly fuel costs. The Formentor ticks all the right boxes when it comes to efficiency, with a maximum electric driving range of 37 miles for the 201bhp model. Not only will you rarely need to use the petrol engine, but it’s comparable to its rivals like the BMW X1 hybrid and Mercedes GLA hybrid in most respects.

Cupra Formentor e-Hybrid range, MPG & CO2 emissions

Cupra claims the Formentor e-Hybrid can achieve up to 235mpg in 201bhp guise, and up to 188mpg with the more powerful 242bhp engine. However, like all plug-in hybrids, that depends entirely on how often you charge it. It should still be easy to exceed the fuel economy you'd get from any of the non-hybrid models in the Formentor range, most of which return less than 40mpg. Plus, the e-Hybrid is in the same ballpark as the 202mpg Mercedes GLA and slightly more efficient than the MINI Countryman hybrid, which can manage up to 166mpg.

Charge time

Using a standard home wallbox, you can charge the Formentor e-Hybrid’s 12.8kWh battery in just over three and a half hours, however using a three-pin plug will take almost six hours. Either way, an overnight top-up is easily achievable, so you can start each day with a full battery. Like most plug-in hybrids, the Formentor has no rapid-charging capability, so there isn't really any point taking it to a public point in search of a faster top-up.
