The Honda CR-V is one of the first hybrid SUVs Honda sold in Europe, so there’s not a huge amount of data on reliability yet. However, electric power has proven itself generally to be really reliable thanks to there being few moving parts, and Honda engines have been dependable in the past, so it should be good news.

Honda CR-V Hybrid reliability & problems

In the 2021 Driver Power owner satisfaction survey, the CR-V ranked 25th overall out of 75 models, which was pretty good – and the overall satisfaction score of over 88% shows that owners were pleased with their CR-Vs in general. Honda came seventh in the section of the poll that dealt with the brands as a whole, so the ownership experience should be a good one. There was a recall in October 2020 regarding the airbag, so if you’re looking for a used model, make sure the fix has been carried out by a dealer. All cars built after that date won’t need the fix.

Safety

The CR-V’s Euro NCAP crash tests showed that it was very safe overall and it comes with lots of safety features as standard, including collision mitigation braking, forward collision warning, lane-keeping assistance, lane-departure warning, road-departure mitigation, intelligent speed assistance and traffic-sign recognition systems.

Adaptive cruise control is included too, so it scored well for safety tech and these systems give peace of mind to drivers, too. You need to move up to SR or EX trim to get blind-spot warning and cross-traffic monitoring, and you can get low-speed cruise control as an option. It’s a shame there’s no space-saver spare wheel, though; this is because there's only room for a tyre inflation kit under the boot floor.
