The plug-in hybrid Superb iV Estate is about as practical as cars get, provided you don’t want four-wheel drive

The Skoda Superb Estate is one of the most practical estates you can buy. The boot is huge – bigger than the 510-litre official capacity suggests – and in the iV there’s dedicated cable storage under the floor. You can even add a fold-flat front passenger seat, although the loadbay will swallow a two-metre item as is if you simply fold down the rear seats. There’s masses of space for passengers to stretch out in the back and loads of room up front for even the tallest to get comfortable. It’s getting on for limousine-like levels of space.

Skoda Superb Estate hybrid interior space, storage & comfort

The Superb is one of the roomiest cars you can buy, with loads of leg and headroom in the back and front, plus central armrests in the front and back that also help with comfort. The door pockets are a good size and there are two fixed cupholders up front that’ll take a large takeaway mug easily, while the two cupholders that pop out from the rear armrest are fine for most bottles and cups. There’s a covered cubby up front that’s ideal for storing your phone out of sight and the glovebox is a good size as well.

Boot space

The Superb’s boot is a really good size, with a longer boot floor than you might expect for a 510-litre claimed capacity. The squared-off shape and useful underfloor cable storage makes this more versatile than plenty of boots with bigger claimed capacity. There are also four lashing eyes and a load bay cover with one-touch release. We'd like a few more of the clever touches that Skoda often specialises in – boot separators to stop groceries from moving about, for instance, would be a welcome addition.
